LEBANON

OUTLINE HISTORY

Lebanon is a country that knew its touristical development in the fifties. Tourists visited in large numbers the country, and were taken care of by qualified guides, introducing them to the history, geography, culture and traditions of Lebanon. In 1965, the guides decided to regroup themselves within a Syndicate to represent them in the government.

During the crisis, from 1975 till 1991, the Syndicate was paralyzed. Its revival happened on the 24th of July 1995. Since that date, the General Assembly meets every two years to elect 12 active members to represent it. The Syndicate committee is fully recognized by the Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Labor, thus being able to take part in important decisions related to the rights and duties of a hundred Lebanese guides.

To Work with the appropriate governmental and private tourism-related organizations to resolve issues of mutual concern and to create a visitor-friendly destination.

To represent the interests of the tourist guide profession in general, and the Lebanese Tourist Guides members in particular, in matters involving the local, national, and international community.
